Law Enforcement, Social Media, and Suicide: #SPSM chats 10/12/14 9pm CST #LESM #CIT

How should law enforcement officers respond to suicide posts on social media? What crisis intervention training (CIT) do they receive about suicide and social media? Sunday 10/12/14, 9pm CST we will be reaching out to the law enforcement social media community to learn more about the unique issues related to suicide, mental health care, and law enforcement.

The intersection of law enforcement and suicide prevention is situation many of our #SPSM community have discussed in the past. Certainly the suicide prevention community reaches out to LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) and invites them to be on our team of allies. Check this out, for example.

As our crisis intervention systems adapt to the increasing use of social media to express feelings of suicide and hopelessness, it makes sense that the role LEOs play in suicide prevention has altered, too. We’ll be discussing how social media changes (or doesn’t) how LEOs respond to risk of suicide.

The Tweets for this chat will be archived on Storify.
